Consciousness
Consciousness-1 (Field):
The energetic medium in which all thoughts, emotions, sensations, and perceptions arise.
Both the “space” and the “substance” of existence.
Undivided, absolute; sometimes equated with Brahman.
Consciousness-2 (Awareness):
The capacity to notice and illuminate what arises in the field.
Differentiates into levels:
Conscious: fully clear in awareness.
Semi-conscious: dimly recognized, available but not yet clear.
Subconscious: hidden or latent, retrievable by inquiry.
Acts of reflection, logic, or symbolic thought can pull subconscious content into the light.
Additional Detail
Nature: Consciousness is a very overloaded term in spirituality. It is often means the medium, the knowing of the medium, or in non duality both at the same time.
Mechanics: Inquiry works as a spotlight — it draws what is semi- or subconscious into conscious recognition.
Metaphor: In psychological terms, Consciousness is like an ocean. Awareness is the surface wave we notice; subconscious is the deep current, which can still be explored. In metaphysical terms consciousness can be referred to vaguely as the current contents of consciousness or the entire latent field of consciousness which contains all variations and possibilities.
